Silicate efflorescence – professional removal of white deposits from concrete floors

Silicate impregnation is standard practice in the maintenance of new industrial floors, but mistakes in its application can lead to serious aesthetic problems. The most common mistake is applying the treatment before the concrete care film, which results in the appearance of unsightly salt efflorescence that is difficult to remove.

The Challenge: Saving the Floor at Alventa’s Chemical Plant

In 2020, we undertook a restoration project for the flooring in Alventa’s new warehouse in Alwernia. Standard methods, such as deep cleaning by professional cleaning companies, proved ineffective. In such cases, the only solution that permanently resolves the problem is advanced mechanical treatment.

Solution: NORTEC® technology vs. salt efflorescence

To restore the floor’s attractive appearance and functional properties, we used different methods for the two halls:
  1. Main Hall:  We performed a complete concrete polishing using NORTEC® technology. Mechanical removal of the efflorescence layer allowed us to reveal the clean concrete structure and give it a lasting shine.
  2. Hall No. 2:  We performed specialized chemical and mechanical deep cleaning, followed by professional impregnation with the  NORTEC® DENSE N  (next-generation sodium silicate) formulation.

Results and Maintenance: Long-lasting cleanliness

The management at the Alventa plant was highly impressed with the final result. To maintain the achieved standard, we provided a complete maintenance manual and 20 liters of the system concentrate  NORTEC® CLEAN. Our formula not only cleans but also conditions the floor, preventing it from becoming dull again.
