Adapting the floor for automated storage systems – replacing expansion joints for AutoStore
Rising construction costs and a shortage of space are leading logistics operators to increasingly turn to automation for optimization. One of the most advanced solutions is the AutoStore automated storage system. The key to its trouble-free operation is a perfectly prepared floor—removing obstacles for transport vehicles and robots and ensuring the floor is perfectly level.
The Challenge: Over 100 meters of expansion joints to be renovated
As part of a collaboration with an international consortium based in the United Kingdom, Probeton undertook the task of removing technical obstacles from the automated system’s traffic routes. Our team dismantled over 100 linear meters of expansion joints that did not meet the requirements of modern logistics.
Technical process: Joint arris rebuild and crack stabilization
- Dismantling: Precise cutting of the old steel expansion joints.
- Cleaning: Removing expansion joint cord residue and preparing the joints for filling.
- Structural filling: Use of a fast-setting resin mortar with high mechanical strength.
- Leveling and finishing: The repaired areas were leveled with the floor surface, then re-cut along the centerline of the crack and sealed with a semi-rigid resin filler.
Result: Safe and efficient automation
Thanks to our intervention, the floor now has the continuity and stability required for the operation of transport robots. Eliminating gaps at expansion joints protects the AutoStore system’s mechanisms from malfunctions and ensures maximum warehouse operational efficiency.
